after 24 years working on nuclear weapons at los alamos i am retired and persuing whatever appeals to me. during my tenure at la i came in contact with project orion documents and became very enamored with the topic. it was science and not sci-fi, but it opens many topics that could be used in some good science fiction. we have a new forum to discuss related issues. some interesting ideas for space operas has already come up.

I'm sorry that I had to edit your post, however it is our board policy to not allow any sort of self-promotion (at least for first time posters. The longer you are here and more active you are, the more lenient we become with what we allow. *smiles*). We've found that this is the best way to keep spammers away from the boards.
Welcome to the forums!
We're always glad to have new people to talk to about things.
So, what sort of topics have popped up that peaked your interest for space opera?

In case some of you may be wondering what Project Orion was, I've provided a link to an encyclopedia resource which explains better than I could. (And honestly, I had never heard of it before today). However, the (very) short of it is this:
"It was a project to explore the feasibility of building a nuclear-pulse rocket powered by nuclear fission." - Project Orion

Hey you are in a position to help me answer a puzzler. In philosophy tutorials we used to discuss whether taking a job making weapons was a choice that needed moral consideration, or whether because someone is going to take it and the weapons will be made an "it might as well be me" attitude rules.
What was your experience?
sorry I know this wasn't the subject of this thread
