Welcome to the boards, Rose.
I liked FF: tSW a great deal. I saw it at the theater and own a copy of it.
When it came out, I had not played any of the Final Fantasy games and had no idea what to expect. Would it make sense to me having not played the games? I was very pleased to find out that it was a story unto itself. Of course, it may be connected to the older FF games series in some way....I don't really know. I haven't played the older stuff.
A lot of what I heard was that some people didn't like all the exposition in the film, but I felt it was necessary in order to get a feel for what was going on. Without the sometimes long periods where characters did nothing but explain things, the audience would've been left wondering just what the heck was going on.
I loved the animation. There were points where I noticed that they had actually put imperfections into the characters' skin, just like one would have in real life. How cool is that?!
You know...I may go pop FF in and watch it, now.....
