anime vs. games - by smugman on 16:08 11 Feb 2005
There's been so many games made from movies and anime shows and they usually are...should i say... dissapointing? What do you think of these games? Do you recomend a game from a movie or anime show? I've started playing Fullmetal Alchemist because i have been known to watch the show regularly and to my suprise the game is like a lost episode. i'm really digging it. so i have to say bravo to square enix for not letting me down. Is anyone playing it? Have any thoughts? here's a link if you what to take a look. www.square-enix.com/games/FMA

Welcome to the boards! :) I just moved your topic because it seems to be more about games than anime. Plus, someone else had started a thread about the FMA game over here.

You know, I haven't played any games based on anime or movies. I've heard other people talk about being disappointed in them, though. In fact, that is probably the main reason why I tend to avoid them.

I wud like to point out that the Matrix was turned into a game but that game turned out to b ok. I wud of suggest that improvements could have been made, i.e. playing as Neo or as an agent.

I dont no of many games that have been made from a movie... However, i believe that games probably shouldn't be made from a movie becuase unless they are super fantastic the player is usually 8/10 disappointed.

Sony Playstation (2) are creating a game, that every1 shud have heard of, "The Godfather". Maybe, this game will be the exception!!

Maybe they should have made the second and third Matrix films in to games instead of films.  First film is great then it all goes down hill.  Considering the amount of work they put in to motion capture etc they didn't use it particularily well.  That stuff is prob quite cool in the games, but I dont know as I haven't played any Matrix games.

I have to agree with you there, NC. The 2nd and 3rd Matrix films were awful, but may have been good as games.

They're coming out with a MMO based on Matrix, as well. It's still in beta, I think.

Edit: Here's the Gamespy site about the MMO, if you are interested - Matrix Online

Some movie based games are cool though but you're right most can be disappointing.

Hi Vik90, welcome.  :)

It seems like this is a common complaint and it seems to run both ways: games turned into movies have been fairly disappointing and anime turned into games have not been successful.

I'm not much of a gamer, but I think a part of it might be expectations.  In a game you are actually interacting, so lack of plot, script acting are made up for by you actually participating.  But when that game translated to just the screen suddenly you are just a passive observer and tend to be more critical.  The bar is higher to entertain.
