For those of you who haven't yet jumped on the bandwagon and tried Yohoho! Puzzle Pirates, you need to get in there and give it a try before it comes out of the free beta stage. *looks around shiftily, knowing how addictive the game is* I'm not a pirate pusher, dang it! You have nothing! No proof at all....
Rumor is flying at the site that they'll be moving off of the Beta Server (Azure Ocean) and to the real, honest-to-god pay server (Midnight Ocean) soon. Possibly within the next few weeks.
They're holding a huge, ocean wide bash at the end of this month, and speculation is that that is the going away party. Of course, the developers haven't given us a hard and fast date, yet, but all the signs seem to be pointing to a change in the soonish timeframe.

How's your pirating going Ari. Still not spotted you, but the timezone thing makes that hard. I've still just got the one Pirate, but I'm getting lots of cash, it's just spread all over the place.

It's going great! I'm now in training to be an officer...which has opened up another set of puzzles for me to do. Another set which I am Booch-tastic at.

I didn't think there would be a puzzle out there that I'm worse at than Gunnery, but there is: Navigation. They're never gonna let me drive, at this rate.
Yeah, I know. We're probably on at opposite times of the day. How about you? How goes the pirating? Do you have any big plans once we switch to Midnight since everyone will be wiped back to rags, no poe and a foil when they move? Looking to own a ship of your own or run a shop or anything?

I like Nav, now that I've booched it up loads and realise what is going on. Its multidirectional tetris. Still can't gun, but no-one seems to be able to, except expert captains.

Heh! What keeps tripping me up about navving is the flipping between rings. I know what I need to do, but I am still horrendously bad at it.
Yeah...bummer there. I'm not too upset about being wiped back to nothing since I'm just a pirate-pirate. I have no ship of my own, no shops, I'm not a governor....so, all I'm really loosing is a bit of poe, my shiny, new poinard (which I adore... "I loveded you, poinard! I loveded youuuuuu!") and some pretty clothes.
I'm definitely eager to see what the crafting puzzles are going to be. Oh, and something else they will be implementing for Midnight are Flag Wars, so entire flags can fight over new territory and whatnot.

Puzzle Pirates has just implemented a way to play for free on their Viridian server. Basically, you can either to pay to subscribe to either Cobalt or Midnight (standard pay x amount for y months of play) or you can play for free on Viridian. The catch with that server though is that you have to use doubloons to do almost anything. You can either buy doubloons with actual real-life money, or you can earn them by gathering regular pieces of eight and buying doubloons without any real life cost. This has been implemented quite recently, so it's hard to say right now if it's working or not. |
