What is everybody's favourite type of genre? - by Verrona on 05:54 02 Mar 2005
Howdy all,
I wanted to know what genre of game, does everybody prefer. I like action/adventure (everything really)
I thought this would be a good idea, to base other topics on. An example of this, maybe (if allowed) to post or post a link to walkthroughs for games etc.

It's RPG for me, all the way.
I love having a great storyline to go with the game and I enjoy watching the characters evolve. To me, that's the most interesting part of any game. (I like both single-player and MMO)
Strategy games come in a very close second. These games make me really think about what I'm doing. Of course, they can be terribly frustrating, at times, but I think that's just a sign of a good game. If it's easy, what's the point?
FPSs I don't like, mainly because I suck at them. That, and I tend to find them boring.

I guess mine would be strategy but we are talking old time hex style wargames translated to the computer.
Barring that RPG's, although in truth I don't game much.

I like RPG's, action/adventure, racing simulation, fighting simulation, strategy/puzzle-solving, and a lot of board games. I don't know if I could put them in any particular order. I really like games that are able to combine some of the above types/genres too.
Like Ari, I'm not any good at FPS's. I've had a lot of fun with them, and Takeshi has kicked my butt playing them. :) It would just take a lot of practice for me to be any good. Heh. I hear that EL is really good at them.

Im a puzzle game person, but that wasn't a category so I went with retro as I thought a lot of old games were based on simple puzzles.
I hate strategy games because I can never remember which buttons change weapons/inventory/map etc. and they tend to have quite male orientated graphics and stories and the pace can be slow.
FPS are fun if fast paced, but like Ari I am crap at them (see my post about inability to play Halo2 because I was constantly stuck in a corner looking at the ceiling.)
Action adventure prob my second favorite category. In fact if you combine retro with action adventure you get my first ever console game "Alex Kid in miracle world" for the Master System 2. I still have not finished it - no save ability and it gets really hard, especially when it sends you back three levels cos you didn't find an essential item. Arrggghhhh

Ah yes, stone head scissor head and paper head. Did you get to the level where when you have beaten stone head for the second time his head comes off and starts flying around the room? Used up about 17 lives on that guy just to leave the room and walk straight in to a flame...last life gone, dead!!
