Virgin Radio - by Brad on 09:57 04 Sep 2003
Way back in '98 I discovered www.virginradio.co.uk and was able to play it on my PC over the Internet.  I quickly got hooked on Virgin Radio's sound and would listen while surfing late at night and on weekends when the stream was clear.

Over the years and many computers later I sort of lost track of Virgin Radio.  Anyway a discussion with some friends about Internet Radio got me to look it up again and I have to say I still like it.  At least I like the music programming - the more talk oriented shows at certain hours I could pass on.  I like the mix of old stuff like the Stones to the newest UK bands, many of which we don't hear in the US.  I just heard David Bowie's new song "Nuclear Star" which is quite good.

Anyway, if you are not familier with it I suggest you give it a listen.  If you have Windows Media Player, Real Media Player, Quicktime installed you can pick it up.  (If you need to download a player I recommend Windows Media Player over Real Media Player, less bloat.)  I am not sure if Radio@Netscape, mentioned here, has Virgin Radio or not.  Virgin has both slow streams for dialup and fast streams for broadband.

Anyway I like it and thought I would recommend it.

Yeah, I'm with you there Brad, Virgin Radio is pretty good, and much better run now that its a Chris Evans free zone!  I'm in the UK, but I still listen to Virgin online, because its a long wave station here, so its all but impossible (in my area) to tune in after dark, and even during the day its difficult to tune in.

Oh, and for new bands, I first heard Starsailor on Virgin and look how well they're turning out.....

I'm pretty impressed with the music and DJ's on Virgin.  I was wondering if anybody in the UK listened or if it was all foreigners?  The one show I'm not keen on is "Jeeza's Virgin Confessions" but the rest seem decent enough.

I'll check out Starsailor.  I'm not sure if I've heard them yet.

I like the new Bowie song, also I really like The Darkness.   :D   What fun!

I also heard a new Blondie song - I'm a pushover for Blondie.

Yeah, Virgin does fairly well here, especially considering that you cant get them on FM!

Strictly speaking, Radio one is the top station, but if youlike real music not just manufactured cherry pop, Virgin is the station to listen to.
