I'm going to see the new version of The Ring 2 tonight with friends, and I'm half dreading and half looking forward to it. I haven't seen the original so I guess I have nothing ot compare it to in a negative way, but at the same time someone told me that it was nearly as good as the remake of Dawn of the Dead - and though I liked the original of that, I thought that the remake was the very worst waste of a cinema ticket ever.........

I liked the original Ring...until the end. When I found out what the whole movie was really about, I found that I couldn't stop laughing. I think that's why I just can't bring myself to watch the second one.
Definitely let me know how it is, though. I may still want to see it when it comes out on video.

Ive seen Ring and Ring 2 in the original Japanese forms. I thought they were both creepy but you dont get much explanation of what is going on or why. I think this is a cultural problem, because the nature of ghosts/undead etc in this film is more obvious to a Japanese audience. However as a westerner my assumptions about paranormal creatures is different.
From what I've seen of the western remakes it seems that they have put more explanation in, and they are directed by the guy who did the Japanese films so you know you're gonna get equally good images etc.
Why were you laughing at the end Ari? I dont remember anything funny....Except that it is a childish urban myth type set up, but we knew that from the beginning.

It's all about demonic spam.
If you don't copy this message and send it to ten friends, you will have the absolute, terrible, bad luck to die. Doesn't that sound a bit like a chain letter?

I kind of thought that was the point - feeds off the kind of fear that makes people send chain letters - only this time it is true!! I know what you mean though - scary dead woman with supernatural powers but she can only hurt you if you take the dare and watch the movie
Does the American version have the bit at the beginning where the children are interviewed about urban myths they've heard of and the video/telephone ringing one specific to this film? Cos that bit kind of made me think from the beginning that the formula is one of childhood fears etc.
