Not much on TV on Sunday nights so it is a good night to watch B-scifi monster movies.  So last night was The Phantom from 10,000 Leagues.  Well it came out in 1956 so it is actually older that I am.  Being part of the second  wave of kids growing up with TV I watched movies just like these on dreary Sunday afternoons and evenings as a young kid so it was a real flashback.  These are the sorts of movies that kids of my era playacted out in back yards and playgrounds.  Movies like this one are good for seeing what was on people's minds in the mid 1950's.  From the cover blurb: "Hideous atomic mutant strikes from the depths!"  I guess that says it all.

I've never seen this particular B movie, but I agree that a lazy Sunday afternoon is the time to watch them.  They really show the paranoia of that time.

Hi Luka, welcome to the forums.   :)

Yeah these are the perfect lazy day movies with lots of junk food and beer and friends.  B-movies seem to go really good with a bunch of people.

Heh, when I was a little kid these films were considered great adventures.  To a 5 to 8 year old they are really cool, especially the radioactive giant type movies like Attack of the Giant Ghilla (sp?) monster (there was also one with a spider.)  I remember as a kid setting up my toy soldiers to surround the curled up sleeping form of our pet cat, who was designated as the "giant" monster.  Come to think of it that was about all the play you could get out of that cat - all it had to do was lay there and sleep.   :D

Well the cat was generally annoyed with me -- I wonder why?  It is part of a kid's job to annoy someone.   :D
