The Long Ships is one of those movies.
The Long Ships. This is not really a fantasy movie, in the traditional sense, but it could be. I think this movies was intended to cash in on the success of the The Vikings made in 1958.
Kids will like it and adults will find it amusing. D&D'ers with a sense of humor will think of senarios of the past.

The Long Ships would have made a great D&D game. You have Richard Widmark (midwest accent and all) playing a Viking, who steals the Kings funeral long boat to go searching for a legendary solid golden bell as tall as 3 men. Along the way they encounter a Moorish prince (Sidney Poiter not doing his best acting) who is also obsessed with finding the bell. All sorts of Viking and Moorish combat goodness ensues. The acting and the plot is so bad you have fun watching it.
Fun rental if you get bored.

This sounds worth a look see. My local blockbuster, though, tends to not carry anything very old. I'll have to check and see what they have. Or maybe I can order it online.

I'm in the same boat around here, the chain video rental places just don't have anything more than current releases. This is a very blue collar area so indie, artsy or films made by foreigners are out of the question. Half the store is games anyway.
I switched to http://www.netflix.com/ and never looked back. It makes rentals real easy they basically have everything available on DVD in N. America. And they are great for renting TV series.

Brad, your comments on The Long Ships persuaded me to give Master and Commander a try. Was in the mood for some nautical adventure. It was pretty good. Not great, but pretty good. I could recommend it as a rental, though I'm glad I didn't spend more money on it for the regular movies.
I also saw Kill Bill Volume 1 finally and thought it was a bit long but pretty decent.

I liked both M&C and Kill Bill 1. Well worth renting. I thought I would not like KB1 but I have to admit it was pretty good.
