After reading the Ill Made Mute and the next in the series, Lady of Sorrows, I was horrified to find that in Britain we have to wait another two months to get the last of the Bitterbynde Trilogy, the Battle of Evernight, even though it came out in Australia months ago!  In the meantime, I was wondering if anyone could recommend another series of similar dimensions to fill in the time. :(

Hi holsfisher, welcome to the forums! :)

I am not familier with an Ill Made Mute so it is hard to find something just like it.  Just read the blurb over at Amazon and it sounds good.

For fantasy, I highly recommend "The Deed of Paksenarrion" by Elizabeth Moon.  It is excellent.

I'm afraid I haven't read this book, either, so I'm not going to be able to recommend anything exactly like it, either. :)

However, I saw that you mentioned it had a bit to do with European mythology. With that in mind, I thought I might suggest "The Bifrost Guardians" series by Mickey Zucker Reichert. (I may have spelled that wrong. It may be Reichart...I'm not sure and I'm too lazy to check at Amazon.  :p )

Basically, it is about a young man who is torn from the jungles of Vietnam by one of the Nordic gods as he dies in a blast of gunfire. He finds himself thrust into an elven body and told that he has a quest to prevent Ragnarok. *grins* Isn't that always the way it is? Anyway, it draws very heavily on Nordic mythology, assuming that it was all real in the past. And, I must say, that I truly enjoyed the twist at the end, revealing how that mythology ties into today's Christianity.

That sounds good - but when I got my local bookshop to look it up they couldn't find it!  Who is the publisher?

D'oh! *smiles* They may not be able to find it under "Bifrost Guardians" since that's actually the name of the series.

Here's a link to Amazon giving more details about the book. (That's not an affiliate link, btw. I just did a search and copied in the results.  :)  ).

It's put out by DAW Books and the ISBN is 0886779197.

Thanks!  I've ordered it from amazon.co.uk since it doesn't appear to have a British publisher, and I'm eagerly awaiting it! :)

I really hope you enjoy that series! If not, feel free to come back here and flog me for recommending it.  :D
