The Day After Tomorrow - by Kainja on 11:23 03 Jul 2004
I haven't heard anyone talk about "The Day After Tomorrow" and am wondering if anyone has seen it. I believe I read this book when I was a teenager but I remember very little about it except that it involved a new ice age. I thought the movie was decent, but not extraorindary. The idea of the supercooled air coming down from the troposphere was a nice one, and the flooding and ice scenes were magnificient. There was also a scene with wolves that had escaped from the Bronx zoo, though, and it really did not work for me because it was clearly done totally with CGI and the wolves just didn't look like wolves.
As for the acting, I thought it was pretty decent. I remember the main teenage male character from Donnie Darko. He was good. The best line in the movie came from a smallish teenager who, after disaster had hit, was working in the New York public library on trying to get a radio fixed. A security guard, obviously thinking him incapable of handling the task, asks if he shouldn't get some of the smart people in the library to help. He replies. "I'm president of the engineering club, the math club and the chess club. If there's a bigger nerd in here then by all means send them over."

Oh my, I'm just going to have to check it out some time. Sounds too good to have passed up so far, especially with a line like the one you noted.
(Pretty sure I saw it in a "Haji-shop", now if I could remember at which encampment)

The movie was actually quite good, the premise has been done before but not to this degree.

Finally saw it. VERY GOOD!! I also liked the last(?) line. One of the astronauts comments about how clean the atmosphere looks.
Overall the theory sounds plausible, but then I'm not exactly a climatologist.

Thanks for letting me know it was decent. I'll put it on my rental list, I was going to skip it.
