Student Arrested For Terroristic Threatening Says Incident A Misunderstanding
Terroristic Threatening - by Arislyn on 15:11 01 Mar 2005
There are days when I am truly frightened by people's lack of common sense. If what the kid says is true:

Quote
It was about a high school over ran by zombies

...then how in the world can these people take it seriously?

Heck, I threaten to take over the world at least once a day and no one has arrested me, yet. And that would be mainly because I'm having a seriously hard time gathering my undead forces. I'm pretty positive this kid is going to run into the same roadblocks as me. :p

Sheesh.

I saw this last week, and am split on what to think. Obviously his story was made up and he meant no harm. His problem was writing it about a school... and imho, nosy grandparents who should have come to him first.

The thing is, there are plenty of stories out there that are actually about terrorism. I mean, look at Tom Clancy's stuff. Does that mean that he's going to go on a rampage and start killing people? There's also the movie....oh, gosh...I think it was called Toy Soldiers, where a school is taken over by terrorists...

I think this is just a knee-jerk reaction from people who don't stop and think before acting. Are we really so frightened that it has gotten to the point where you can't write fiction anymore? Can we no longer tell the difference...?

You know, I don't know anymore. I have no idea what is going through most people's minds anymore.

Speaking of people in the US being frightened, there's a lot of discussion on that in this forum. It was sparked by the movie "Bowling for Columbine".

Is that law about using a school or function in writing just a Kentucky thing, or do other states have it?

I know that over here in UK many comedians objected to the anti-terror laws because they believed satirists could be targeted by police, and this would be bad for free speech.

NC, I'm not sure about other states. I do not remember if they actually said or not, but I believe the 'terrostic' writer was still in school, even though he is a legal adult there are things you can or can't do in school. Some of them now go beyond the normal school discipline and into the juvinile criminal system. I think Haru's link above would demonstrate some of the school paranoia.

There were a rash on laws and new policies after the shootings in Columbine. In our school district you cannot say the word 'gun' outside of the classroom or talk about shooting people or anything even in play and there is 0 tolerance for verbally venting frustration. Which in an elementary setting is silly.

I found out my 6 year old and some of his friends got around not being able to play 'war' by playing 'hunter' as hunting is a common sport in my rural area. The kids divide up into hunters and deer, and as Caspian says, 'sometimes the deer can get a gun too'

Shows how an inventive mind can usually get around such rules.  Cudos to your 6yr old et al.

(I now have a great image of a deer on its hind legs trying to get its hoof on the trigger of a rifle.)

The only thing is..... if my Grandparents found my diary and it had stuf about bombing the school in it, they would ask me about it.  I f his Grandparents gave it in without speaking to hm, maybe its because they have a reason to thnk he's capable of it.  Though of course, he may well just have mad freak Grandparents.

there is a lack of something in this world... COMMON SENSE i mean i always say im going to blow up my job but that would be pretty stupid because i'll have to go thur court(TAKES MONEY) go to jail and that would be a waste of my magical energies.so people like that should go home and play a game.now for the people who worry about him acually doing it they should think and look to see if he has a bomb if he doesnt leave him alone.people would be on the news every day in that case because people to a degree say their going to blow a place up to high Helm because their mad or angry. the two word agains COMMON SENSE
