http://www.tarzantheseries.com/
The site is very slick. The cast is very WB (major eye candy and young).
I may be cynical. For a show that has not even aired a pilot yet, there seems to be a lot of activity on the website. The date is Sunday October 5th. There is a lot of activity. I wonder if it is actual fans (or fans to be) or if it is shilling on the part of the shows producer (which is not a bad idea really... people only post frequently when they see other post frequently).
Now it is a WB show and I have to accept that there needs to be adaptions to bring it to the small screen. There was that TV series about 6 years back, but that did not do well in syndication. I need to breath and accept. I need to give it the benefit of the doubt. I need. I need. I need to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYAAAAA-AAAAAYYYAAAHHHHHH!!!!
The series is a travesty to the original material... heck the Disney version can be considered 100% "true to the book" when compared to this. The X-men movie is more true to the comic book that this show will be to the books. He is the son of a business tycoon. The entire series is in NY. He fights crime... just because... it is... it is...
SAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
pant. pant. I am going to get some thorazine out of the supply closet. I should be calm sometime soon.

I just read about the first 5 paragraphs of the show summary on that site. I won't watch, it sounds terrible.
Like so many things, it sounds like young viewers who never heard of Tarzan will like it, while us old stick-in-the-muds will hate it.
There was an Australian Tarzan series in either the late 60's or early 70's. Set in modern times, but in the jungle with elephants and chimps and such. It was okay. It was never a blockbuster.
Well, at least, us old folks still have George of Jungle cartoons on reruns.

I found some info on the earlier Tarzan series, at least the one I remember, here. It ran from 1966 - 68 and starred Ron Ely as Tarzan. It was decent.

Tarzan is a crime fighter in NYC? *Swoon, collapse, convulse, convulse, convulse,*
Excuse me, but why not just call the character by another name? Clearly, it AIN'T Tarzan.

Why did the estate let them do this?
The oldest story in the book, I guess. Money. I don't even know who has control over the Burroughs estate these days. Are there still relatives who own the copyrights?

I'm not sure. And with all the changes in copyright laws it seeems like nothing will ever go public domain anymore.
Here is the official Tarzan site. But this stuff can get murky. Like LOTR: two different companies own rights to the trilogy: one the movie rights and the other the literary rights.

"Xena" Lucy Lawless to Co-Star in Tarzan series
I guess this story about Tarzan is as closely related to the original Tarzan tales as "Hercules" the tV show was related to the Hercules myths.

Well the premier of "Tarzan" is on tonight. Fortunately the Chicago Cubs (baseball) team is playing a play-off game tonight too (I think). So in this television market nobody will be watching Tarzan.

Hmmm...I haven't seen the show, so I can't really comment. But I did run across this article over at Slate and thought some of you may be interested in what they have to say.

Good article. I have not seen the show or heard any buzz about it. Of course, I don't talk to 11 year old girls so I'm probably out of the loop.

Not that I watched the new Tarzan, but what explains the fact that they cancelled it before it really had a chance to catch an audience? I mean, how many episodes could there have been?

About 8 episodes so far I think. I really think it is who your friends are in the network. I read that Good Morning Miami, IMHO a mediocre sit-com at best, has Zucker championing it and so they let it stay in the lineup to build an audience. Whereas other shows get pulled after only 3 - 8 episodes.
I think Firefly went about 8 episodes before they cancelled it on Fox. They do not even give shows a chance. But it is hard to say about Tarzan because I never watched it.

I grew up with Tarzan and the best movies were the ones with Johnny Wiessmueller(a Romanian, just like me, but I am not bias). No money-seeking, movie-industry, fame-hungry producer can change the magic of the story.
Haven't seen the show but who knows?it might contradict me.
Tell me what the news about it is, please!Thank u!Bye!

They cancelled this one. Yeah I like the old Tarzan movies and the 1960's TV series was good.
