Are spiders sent out by evil spammers harvesting you email address from your website so they can fill your inbox with machine seperated meat product? Are you tired of body part enlargement, v*agra, MLM, septic tank, Saddam cards and other dreck being sent to your webmaster email accounts? Eh? Are ya?
Well, this will help. It encodes your email addy so robots can't read it but humans with a browser can. Cool, eh?

For a long while there my septic tank had a regular fan club of wellwishers.

Joanne says the next time I get one of those Viagra things, she's going to sue them for not also offering something to slow down my responses!
Why can't they send something a normal person might need? A dating service? Like everyone on the net is that pathetic? Sex stimulants, enlargers, toys? Like everyone on the net is that insecure?

Joanne does one thing I think is pretty good. Some have a box where you can ask them a question, so she cuts and pastes one of my reject MS's (totally incoherent dreck, but 91K words!) into the box, and sends it in.
We have yet to get a second e-mail from the ones she did that to. She says it will be enough that, if a lot of people do that, it will clog their inbox.

be carefull with replying to these .. many are sent with false return addresses or through annonymous servers or other techno-babble do-hickeys .. on some you will get a 550 address not found or can't send email back to further clog your inbox .. or you may end up spamming some poor fellow who happens to match the address the real spammer slapped in the header.
and some track who they get reponses from .. any response is considered a 'live' email address .. you have shown them that you opened or done /something/ with the email, even if it is to click the 'opt-out' link many of them have.
there are so many sources, programs, and methods of harvesting, and sending email that there are very little that can be done and often what is good defence against some types is just what is looked for in others.
i get 200+ spam emails a day .. if i responded to all i would now be a dept free, well-endowed man with a full head of hair .. hrrm well, i guess i'm all of that now anyway .. and the only thing i've found is to try to stem the number of people who get my email and to manage the spam with which I am already cursed.
this is a good method in helping stopping harvesters, but some eventually will get programmed to read the codes like a browser does, another is to hide a email link in a javascript, many spiders are programmed to ignore that. like many things there always has to be a multi-tiered defense.
i also use mailwasher http://mailwasher.net to handle a large blacklist and delete spam off of the server before it gets downloaded .. it also picks up on a few viruses too
