From what I've read in various articles, the latest is supposed to be much darker and mature in nature than the first two. However, considering Lucas' track record lately, I'm not holding out much hope that this one will be REALLY good. (I hated Phantom Menace but Clones was marginally okay, in my opinion.)

Again, as far as I know, it will have the same actors/actresses. But, I don't think there will be another film after this one. Episode Three is supposed to bridge the gap to Episode Four: A New Hope.

Thanks for some answers and what your saying is true Episode 1 did suck but you have to admit the battle at the end of episode 2 was cool.

Hmmm...I prefered Phantom to Clones, but both disappointed me so I'm not forming any opinions before the third film and hoping this will stop so much disappointment.

I think alot of why people hate Phantom is Ja ja Binks(or however you spell that) and I agree he is annoying and rubbish.  However I found Clones to be badly paced and lazily designed.  Instead of cleverly mirroring aspects of the fifth film (Empire) to create a feeling of history running in cycles of three (a central theme of Lucas's beleif in mono-myth), they decided to just blatantly copy things without the same depth of context and feeling.
They put main woman (Queen whatever she is)in white jumpsuit to remind us of Leah and her sexy white jump suit, but it made sense in Empire because she is on the snow and ice filled planet Hoth - white is the camoflage colour the whole rebel force is wearing.  It's pointless in Clones.
Anakin's had is cut off to mirror Luke, but whereas for Luke it is really traumatic, he is scared and found out his enemy is his father and we really fear for his safety, in Clones it's all really quick like "Oh your hand is off, never mind we'll fix that now off to the next scene"

Anyway gonna stop ranting now. Sorry...

After Lucas poisoned the well with Eps 1 and 2, I wonder if he is just saying Ep 3 is darker in the hopes of luring people back for a third try.  The whole news stories seem a little too much like they were carefully planted by some ad agency.

I wasn't really that disappointed in Phantom Menace.  Most people downright hated that film, but I thought it was the appropriate political struggle that the beginning of Star Wars deserved, with Palpatine as the phantom menace, manipulating the series of events within the movie and deceiving both the Trade Federation and the Naboo.  I thought it was genius.

But I hated Attack of the Clones.  They took what could have been potentially the best movie of the series and turned it into a sci-fi whodunnit, with Obi Wan wandering about the galaxy looking for clues and answers about the clone army.  I would have preferred a movie focused on the Clone Wars themselves, but Lucas regulated that to a cartoon mini-series instead, which, as cool as that came out, is utterly asinine.

The new movie is supposed to be extremely dark, and I know for a fact that several established characters of the prequel trilogy get the axe, and I don't just mean Mace Windu and the Jedi council.

I sincerely hope that the death of Jar Jar Binks will be particularly long and drawn out, but I figure that Lucas isn't likely to do that.

:D
