I rented the DVD of director Tim Burton's 'Sleepy Hollow' tonight.  I thought it was a fantastic film.  Very, larger that life, like Burton's films often are.  I have to admit when it came out I didn't like the looks of it, but I thought I would get in the mood for Halloween so I rented it.  Burton has spooky down pat.  :D

What an odd reworking of the story.  And strangely, over the course of the film, as the reasons (motive) for the events become more human the film itself becomes even more supernatural.

I really enjoyed it.  Anyone else have thoughts on this?

I watched it a long time ago and remember really liking it, but I don't recall enough to be able to say, "Yeah, I really liked X about it..."

I may have to rent it again and take a second look. :)

I liked it alot too.  I always do with Tim Burton though - lovely sets and lighting etc.  Jonny Depp does a great job of playing a slightly geeky intelectual trying to proove that the world does not work how his murderous cleric father believed it to.  The scene of his mother's death and how he got the scars on his hands creeped me out big time!
Normally I like Christina Ricci, but I'm not sure this part offered much scope for performance other than to look pretty.

I also really liked Sleepy Hollow.  My son even bought me the headless horseman figure for Christmas.  the tree itself in the film was incredible.  And Johnny Depp is a ver fine actor.

I really liked the way Burton used the scarecrows especially the pumpkin headed ones.  They just were a nice touch on the creepy scale.

I have to agree Depp did a great job.  Christina Ricci was mainly there to look beautiful, as Noonchild points out, but she did that very well.  The interesting thing is that we seem to be seeing her through Depp's characters eyes so she is up on a pedestal like Depp's mother is, at least during the first part of the film.

Yeah, she actually had a lot more to her - protaction spells etc., but we dont really see that side too much cos we see JD's view of her as beautiful and helpless.
