LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - The Robinson clan is headed back into deep space.

The WB Network has given a pilot order to a remake of the fantasy-adventure drama "Lost in Space," which ran on CBS from 1965-68. Feature filmmaker John Woo (news) ("Mission: Impossible 2") is on board as an executive producer and may possibly direct the pilot.

Full Story

This is interesting.  Normally, I have an aversion to remakes, but in this instance I really do think the original can be improved upon.

If you look at the pilot for the orginal series (filmed in B&W) the story is dark and tense and scary.  It was pretty cool.  But this changed rather quickly and they later turned Dr. Smith into a buffon and the show got progressively goofier and more campy as time went on.  They dumbed the whole show down for the kiddies.

Now if they can make  the new Lost in Space that creepy scary show like it was first envisioned and/or if they can make it a action/adventure show that would be cool too.

I kind of enjoyed the movie of a few years ago, but I never really cared for the tv series much.  the first time I watched it was in the buffoon stage and I much preferred the more dramatic Star Trek.

I'm wondering the new version of Battlestar Galactica will turn out.

I enjoyed the movie remake quite a bit and found Gary Oldman's rendering of Dr. Smith to be wonderfully evil. Of course, I'm a Gary Oldman fan, so I may be a bit biased in that regard. *chuckles*

I have my doubts about this new show, though. I've watched Woo's "Once a Thief" a few times and found it to be painful, at best. It is campy...and not the "good campy" that I so adore. I'm hoping that he will do much, much better with LiS.

I'm curious when (and at what hour) it will come out, myself.

I work the "swing" shift, so if it's in the evening...I'm out.  And being in the National Guard, there are certain weekends, that if it's on, say Saturday or Sunday afternoon, I wouldn't be able to watch it...I've been looking forward to it since we now have cable.

To bring it back to original subject:
Ari, not so much that I'm a Gary Oldman fan, but I loved the way he portrayed the doctor in the movie.
