New Stories - by Arislyn on 17:39 29 Jul 2002
Here is where you can tell us of the new story thread you would like to start and establish your rules. Let your potential players know if you will be acting as a moderator or if it will be completely free-form. Tell the theme, classes, races, time-frame, etc. of the story.
As long as I'm here, let me go ahead and let you know that I am not accepting new players to the Lapis Blue thread.

Okie-dokie. I'm going to start four new threads sometime over the next couple of days for anyone to join. Each will have a theme: fantasy, science fiction, anime and horror. All of these threads will be completely open to anyone and everyone, I will not be acting as a moderator so there won't be a "story" per se. However, I will create a thread of "News and Rumors", tossing out tidbits of what might be happening in the world at large so that your characters can run with it. In these threads, you will have the freedom to create the world as you go - this will be almost completely free-form.
I will only monitor these threads for flaming, sex and the overuse of cursing. I'd also appreciate no cross genre stuff - no gundams running around in the fantasy world and no magic tossing elves over in the sci-fi section. (Though, anime covers so much of that, it's your best bet if you want to play a magic-casting, gundam flying gnome.) Other than that, have fun!
Once I've come up with a background city/state/country/ for you begin to play in, I'll post the details and open the threads for play. (I know that I said you would have the freedom to create as you go, and you will. But you gotta have a starting point.)

Okay...this is going to be the first, new story thread set in an anime-like world. I'll try and get get seed post up sometime later today.
Chrisial Caer
Many believe that the creatures of magic left our world of their own accord, choosing to leave because man's encroachment upon magic was too great, the technology being developed killing the natural, mystical forces that kept them alive. However, those people are wrong. Long ago, the world of the Fae and that of Man separated, a veil sliding down through the ether, parting the two worlds. The veil is a cosmic event, neither knowing nor caring of the struggles between magic and technology, of Fae and Man. The force behind the veil is much like the moon, inconstant and ever-changing. Now, thousands of years later, the veil is lifting and the two worlds are beginning to merge once again, and Fae and Man are forced to deal with existing in the same realm once again.
The year is 2102 and the world is no more at peace than it is now. We have managed to keep from blowing ourselves up, but that is about it. The global temperature has risen to the point where oceans are about 10 feet higher than before, on average. Many of the coastal cities and islands that we know today are now under water. Many species of plant and animal have fallen into extinction. However, with the juxtaposition of the world of Fae and that of Man, many new and previously unknown or forgotten species have emerged. The dangers of technology have been realized and those of magic are just being discovered.
How will Man and Fae co-exist? Certainly, there will be those who wish to learn from one another….but there will also always be those who hate and fear that which they do not understand, from both sides.
The stories will take place in a city known as Chrisial Caer, located in southeast Asia and sitting squarely upon a ley line. (Meaning, the forces of magic and technology are pretty much evenly balanced there.) The city itself is a bustling port, well-protected by patrols, but still fairly open in trade. Feel free to create the city as you see fit, shape it as you like. I'm just giving you a starting point, really.
The story will be open to everyone and anyone who wants to join and there will be no maximum on the number of people allowed in. It will be completely freeform, with me just keeping an eye on things from afar. Please refrain from flaming, out of character conversation (that can be handled privately or in the OOC thread), no gratuitous sex and cursing. Also, please do not choose to play a character of station/power, such as a king, military general, president, etc. No one wants to have to deal with obeying your character's commands and, most likely, if you do try to order people about they aren't going to listen to you. Also, keep in mind that battle and dying is purely on a consent basis. If you decide to fight, you need to talk it over with your opponent and decide whether one will be defeated or killed or if it will be a draw. You can't just pop up and yell, "I kill Bob!" and have it be so. I will also drop news and rumors now and then that your characters can either read about in local news or overhear, giving you some new plots and whatnot to run with should you choose.
Have fun!

Ok, as those of you involved know, I have started a new story hour. This game is closed to new applicants. I have three players already, which is plenty.
To the players: any comments, out of game discussion, or questions, can be emailed to me or discussed in the OOC Area here in the Tavern.
