It looks like there are tons of SFF movies in production or planned, and Hollywood got the message from the Harry Potter and LOTR films.
I, Robot, starring Will Smith (Trailer) leds the pack. I have to admit to being a little worried about this one given the Wild, Wild West movie fiasco. It is not that I don't think Will Smith cannot act, he can, it's more that they will go too commercial and destroy the story Asimov wrote. But I gotta say the trailer looks good.
The other one I'm looking forward to is the Edgar Rice Burroughs "Mars" books which Paramount optioned the movie rights to the first 3 books a couple of years ago. It seems that A Princess of Mars is tentatively scheduled for release in 2006. Robert Rodriguez may direct. I don't know much about him.
The War of the Worlds is also in the works as well as dozensa of other films!

I really really want to see the ERB Mars film. Have wanted to see such a film for years. I will probably rent I Robot. I liked Will Smith in the Men in Black movies but he tends to turn SF stuff toward a too comedic angle and that can destroy a good dramatic storyline for me. Wild Wild West was indeed a fiasco.
In other news, I watched a move on Sci Fi last night called "Alien Fury," which was suprisingly good. I enjoyed it.

I may see I, Robot in the theater only if it gets rave reviews. I agree Will Smith might inject too much humor.
I'm praying the ERB Mars movie is well done and a hit. The Mars books are my favorite ERB works and it would be a shame if they goof them up.
I'll check out Alien Fury.
