I was trying to think of something good to post about when I realised just how many things I watch (or watched as a child)are Sci-fi or sci-fi linked.

Dr Who, The Tripods, The Triffids, Star Trek (all series'), Farscape, Bab 5, the X-Files, Lost In space, Planet of the Apes, UFO, Land of the Giants, X-men, Earth final Conflict, Red Dwarf, and prob many more.

One of my fav's is the Tripods.  It scared the **** out of me, not so much for being robots with guns, but because of their controlling philosophy -"Brainwashing for Peace".
The first time I saw someone being capped, and the difference it made to her personality, I felt sick but was hooked to the series.  I was prob a bit young for it, the theme tune made me almost terrified but I still had to find out what happened next.  Anyone swee it who was old enough to remember it well?

Oh! I had completely forgotten about Tripods until you mentioned it. I remember seeing it, but I don't think I watched it all that often. I don't remember all that much about it. (Of course, I have a hard time remembering what I had for breakfast today, soooo....:P )

See, I'm a huge Red Dwarf fan. Arnold J. Rimmer has got to be my all-time favorite love-to-hate-him character. The thing is, despite the fact that he is rude, snide, and arrogant and I know that I would hate him in real life, I can't help but like him!

I am not familier with Tripods.  What is it about?

Oh, oh!  UFO I just got done watching the first set on DVD.

I missed Red Dwarf and Blake's 7 when they first came out but a couple of years ago I started watching them and enjoyed both.

Dr. Who,  I love the early parts of that series, especially Pertwee and Baker as The Doctor.  I have a theory on Dr. Who: the cheaper the sets the better the program.  When they started getting a padded budget it started declining. IMO. :)

When I volunteered at a theatre (yrs ago) we got to borrow some BBC costumes for a display, and I found an original Dr. Who alien head mask.  It was made of papier mache and the offcuts from making seqins, and glitter.  Love retro Dr who aliens, how could I find it so scary as a child?  Think Tom Baker is my fav, but I remember more Peter Davidson episodes.  I always wanted to be a Doctor Who girl, plucked from boring life to work with a timelord!!

Tripods is about this alien race who try to enforce peace and tranquility through a brainwashing procedure called capping.  This makes the person tranquil and nice, but essentially loyal to the Tripods.  Its called Tripods because the Aliens use these Giant Three legged mobile machines.  Grey ones do the capping.  Red ones have guns to destroy those who oppose the tripod regime.  Our story follows a young man trying to escape capping.
Based on the old question about whether peace is worth sacrificing choice.  The Tripods believe our freedom allows us to commit crime and start war.
