We bought My Neighbor Totoro, by Hiyao Miyazaki, yesterday. (Runt and I will eventually have all of his films!) This is a wonderful movie full of imagination and the same delightful wonder that all of his work has. While Princess Mononoke was aimed more at adults, I think, My Neighbor Totoro is definitely a family/children's film. No doubt about that. However, that doesn't make it any less of a joy to watch for adults.
My Neighbor Totoro is the story of two young girls who are moving into a old farmhouse with their father. Their mother is in the hospital and will join them when she is well. While they get settled in, the two girls discover creatures called totoros that only they can see. They play together and, most importantly, the totoro become sort of "guardian spirits" for the the children, watching out for them. I won't tell you anymore about it. If you do watch it, I don't want to spoil anything.
My Neighbor Totoro is a simple, sweet story that people of all ages can enjoy. I highly recommend getting it. It's well worth the buy, especially if you have little kids.
