Okay, I'm getting sick of posting WebRing updates, but it's the only ring host going full bore right now. This'll be the last, but it's worthy of posting.

One of my biggest problems with WR is all the dead rings, most of which are left over from the migration. WR had an adoption policy, but it was taking up to 4 months to adopt the rings out.

Meanwhile, the system was clogged with deadwood, burying good rings under bad. This (and WR's finicky javasripting) was one of the major drawbacks to the system. In some speculative fiction subcategories, you would find more dead rings than good.

Now, WR has automatic adoption. The system tracks a ringmaster's performance (number of dead links in the ring, number of ring sites on hold waiting for review, ect) and promotion (you can send invites through WR, which are tallied) and number of rings (the more you have, the lower your performance score).

Right now, the number of days from application to adoption is supposed to be 7-10, with other ring members able to veto a potential new ringmaster.

As far as the second gripe I've had with WR: a ring can now be configured to use only HTML codes (yipee!), which I think will build more stable and long lasting rings.

Okay, now I have to find something else to post about  :p

those are two good things .. i was in WR not to long ago looking for rings to submit my wife's poetry site to .. it was a real pain, to me everything seemed counter-intuitive .. maybe i'm old fashion.

and when i was starting the new Fantasy Herald site i was looking for rings to adopt or start there and found the whole process a real mess. i swore off webring right there. but i will put them back on my list if it looks like they are working on those problems .. yeah te html code thing was another minor gripe of mine..

I hope this really cuts through their backlog.
