as some of you know i had to move my fantasyherald site a couple weeks ago. the new hosting has access to some stuff i've not gotten to play with yet in my internet rovings. most importantly a mySQL database. so i've decided to take my tiny little online RPG directory and give it a quick kick in the pants a see what fell out.

with a directory script running php through mySQL I rebuilt Jack .. bigger better faster stranger etc.

like most of the things i do at least my own projects  .. it is never really going to be finished. there are features i need to learn to program into it. things i want to change. i chose this particular directory script over a few others because it allows me to set up memberships, and make usegroups who can edit and administrate.

I'm slowly 'seeding' the directory while i plot and plan. i thought i'd ask you guys to take a look. i'm not really out to compete against some of the fine online rpg sites out there.

Looks good, din! You can tell that a lot of time and effort has gone into it.

I like it because you are listing all sorts of online games, not just muds, mushes and moos (oh, my!).

The other thing I like is that you are also listing links to resources for those that want to start a game.

The directory script runs much smoother than the old and is much more searchable.

The ability to add editors will also help you in the long run.

there are plenty of things it doesn't do, that i may either wait for an update for or just try and write into the program myself. i have lots of little ideas . it is mostly a nice learning experience for php and mySQL.

If i can solve a few problems i would like to use this particlar script in other places.

My worry would be if you customize it too much what will happen to your upgrade path?

I'm pretty impressed with what I see so far.  I will be interested in how well it spiders.

I love it, din. I've been a fan of Jack since you'd added it to the FH group. I really like what you've done.

thanks CR. i started it more on a whim when searchking was at a very low ebb and i was not sure of the survival of Silver Key.

The current incarnation of Jack is a good programming project because it does a little bit of everything. i have little news updates on the site itself hooked to my FH forums, i'm trying to document my progress there with adding things .. i just stuck in dynamic metatags into the category data.
