Everyone says that Harry Potter is stupid or some lame comment just because its huge and the author made something of herself. What I saw is what do you truely think of the books and movies? I mean we say its lame and stupid or some ignorant fact only because the fact kids are reading again and it happens to be about fantasy. Its a sad thing. I say thats good. Its a well creative story worth what its getting. Come on know Rowlen was a poor mother who did this for comfort and fun. I see nothing wrong with the books or the film. I wonder whats your thoughts?

Heck, I'm creeping up on 30 and I've read all the Harry Potter books. I think they are wonderfully creative and well-written. As you said, these are books that are getting children to read, which is a wonderful accomplishment. Anything that sparks a child's interest in books is well worth it's weight in gold.

Now, I didn't care for the film just because I had read the books first. Films can never compare to the written word simply because there is so much that either can't be conveyed over film or because you have to keep the movie to a reasonable length and must cut out a lot of material.

I have not read the books or seen the film.

Does not matter.  If the youngsters are entertained that makes it a success.  Harry Potter is not made for middle aged people so what I think does not matter.

There is a danger at trying to judge young adult works by adult standards.  We grownups bring to much baggage, cynicism and agendas to the table to really enjoy new works for kids.

I'm all for anything that might get kids interested in fantasy.  Harry Potter is not hurting anything so I'm glad it is around. :)

Is there a lot of criticism of HP?

*nods* Yes, actually there is. Let me do a search, and I'll find you a list of the Top 100 Banned Books. Harry Potter (as a series) weighs in about 72-73. Of course, this list also has "James and the Giant Peach", "A Wrinkle in Time" and others.

There is just no pleasing some people, and if you read the criteria for the bannings/contention, you can see why they reached the conclusions they did.

I tried to supply a link to the site, but it didn't work. "top 100 banned books" as a search on google works well.

I seen the top 100 banned books. I think it sucks big time. Its because these #### over protective Christians who think its evil to read about magic and fantasy. Yet half of their relgion is based on pagan belief. Go figure. I never understood such hast over books. Its not only Christians. I should not say that but to every overly protective ignorant idiot out there. Its a sad sad thing.
