I saw the second Harry Potter movie over the weekend.  While it lacked the sense of discovery of the first film, i thouhgt it was a bit better.

The young actors seem to have settled into their roles, and most importantly, the special effects are not driving the action but are serving the plot in this one.

It had a little more soul than the first one - not a lot - but some.

It is aimed at kids so I'm not the target market, I must keep that in mind.  All said, it was a pleasant movie.

You need to see it on DVD and look at the cut scenes.  They help improve the movie immensely and would recapture some of the magic (pardon the pun).  I hope they release a version that includes them.

I liked the movie. I have made a point of not reading the books until after seeing the movie.  (My wife is the reverse and has read the entire set to date).  I just want them to be entertaining, not to be disappointed by the film.

The problem is that Rowlings is writing longer, and longer books, each time.  Books two was nearly 80 pages longer than book one, which was almost too content filled to fit the 2 hour movie block.

The writers and the director commented that they were not looking forward to movie 6 and 7, as she is currently adding 50 to 100 pages each novel.  At that point, there will need to be a movie 6.5 and 7.5.  Because of the increased content, they are going to need to cut elements... elements that will make the story magical (continuing the pun and theme).

Good points Moonhunter.  I skipped the books too.  It's one thing to take a couple of hours out for a movie but quite another to take out several more to read a book intended for pre-teens.  Just not what I want to do.

I had not thought about the book length and how it will effect future movies.  Kids will want nearly everything to be included.  I'm not sure how they will be able to handle that.

I think they are going to have to start filming 2 or 3 movies simultaniously (like LOTR and Matrix 2 - 3) or the actors are going to start looking too adult.

I have both films on DVD and love them both. I am just a big kid so I watch a lot of childrens fantasy films. It is always fun.

It had a lot of unique flare to this one and I know the books themselves get darker and the films i am sure will get darker as well.

I haven't seen the second potter film yet, but will no doubt rent it at some point.  I did like the first one a lot

I've read the books (out loud to a younger brother... some task considering how little she uses FULL STOPS in the first book, it's just all comma's) and I thought that the films have been far better so far, although the books improve as she writes.  The kids were wonderfully realistic - in the book they're so polite, but in the film they use words like bloody and bugger - which is how British kids really talk.  They managed not Americanise it ( no offense ).  The films are more lively too.... :D
