With Halloween just around the corner, I'm sure that some of you may be considering running a horror based RPG for Halloween. I've been sitting here trying to come up with some ideas and thought I would toss them out for you. If anyone else thinks of more ideas or has anything to add about playing horror RPGs in general, please jump in!
Let's see....
1. I've always been a fan of the "past life" scenario. Halloween is a perfect time to wonder about what may have been. One of the characters could turn out to be the reincarnation of an important, past figure who must face the dark forces arising to either A. Destroy him/her again or B. Sway him/her to the old, inner darkness that dwelt within them long ago. The game itself could revolve around defeating the dark forces or even, just discovering who the PC is (though this would be better for a solo adventure i.e. just the DM and 1 player). After all, they could be having visions and hearing voices....could well be going insane.
2. Cthulhu! Nuff said.
3. Since All Hallow's Eve is traditionally the night when the veil between worlds becomes thin and parts, you could have the players wage battle against demonic forces who are determined to use the opportunity to take over the world. Yeah, I know it's overdone, but that doesn't mean it isn't a fun scenario.
Hmmmm...I'm at work right now, so I'll post more as I think of them.

I don't know about you guys, but any great Halloween RPG would have to include the classic "dog doo and fire".
Even if that's the secret weapon to defeat Cthulu.

Okay...so this is what happens:
You find out that one of the players is actually the mortal manifestation of an dark, elder, tentacular Cthulhu god that was once destroyed by other, more powerful DETCGs. Now, on the eve of his 31st birthday (which we all know is when true evil begins to blossom into one's being) on Halloween night, he tries to take over the world and fill the night with screams of agony and wretched suffering.
His friends must discover the ancient Ritual of Orange and Brown and perform it upon their now psychotic friend. The ritual involves taking pumpkins and stuffing them full of dog poo, setting them in a precise, cabalistic pattern and then lighting them aflame whilst their friend is bound in the center of the pattern. The smell of burning pumpkin and doo is enough to drive away even the strongest of elder, tentacle gods.....

Of course, if Cthulu were really vulnerable to dog doo.... The possibilities are endless!
Say, I know this doesn't fall into the RPG category, but is anyone here having a costume day at work? If so, what do you plan to go as?

Well, I'll be off on the 29th & 30th, coming back to work at 11:30 pm on the 31st...Don't know if we're having a costume day, but if we did, I'd love to come to work in my SCA garb. But I seriouly doubt they'd let me in the building with my weaponry (sword, longbow, boot-knife and dagger).

We're not having a costume day where I work. If we were, I'd have the same problem as Rychaerde, though. I'm sure they wouldn't let me in with my daggers.......of course, on the other hand, we do have a couple of people that no one would really miss.....they might let in if I promised to use them....
