Okay some of my friends oldest kids are now starting to graduate from high school.
What the heck is being given as gifts to these kids? Gift certificates or is it better just to write a check? Anyone know?

Hmmm... I remember getting some cash, a very nice watch, a few *ahem* things from my girlfriend, a dinner at a really nice restaurant.

Hmmm... well, I guess it depends on how much you wanna spend.
-A nice gift certificate to a good bookstore.
-A first or collector's edition of a book or series of books she likes...

I don't know her well enough to say. I'm thinking some cash might be a good bet. Kids always need money to buy stuff. Maybe that is the safe way to go.

Cash is almost always good for kids that age. That way she can purchase what she desires with it.

Well I got nothing when I graduated, even though I got straight A's. But my ideas would be some cult literature like "Generation X" or "Catch 22" or "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance", "On the Road" etc. etc. And maybe wrap them in a Hello Kitty Knapsack, or other Japanese kitch. Oh and a personal message from you in the books so she has a memory attached to them.
