Tried it?

Every once in awhile, I'll get some bizarre urge to try a MMORPG. The latest one that has caught my attention is Final Fantasy Online. Has anyone out there tried it?

Hasn't this one been around for years?

*grins* No, no. I think you may be thinking of Ultima Online. That, or the fact that the whole Final Fantasy series has been around since the dawn of man. Final Fantasy Online aka FF XI has been out for a few months, I believe. At any rate, it's still in the $50 range in the stores.

Edited to add link. :)

You are right Ari.  I was getting them all confused. :)

I have it.

It's fun and enjoyable, and isn't the perfect translation of console game.

However, it is a MMORPG by people who went out of their way to find out what people liked and disliked about other MMORPGs. It isn't the most complicated of games, but it does have depth.

Add to that it being extremely newbie friendly and solo-able and you've got a game that is in my opinion very good and deserving of the praise that it recieved from reviewers.

It helps that it has been out for nearly 9 months in a foreign country, meaning most of the possible big annoyances were already out of the way before it was released here. It still has fixes and such regularly, but not massive Star Wars Galaxies level problems and solutions.

I recommend it, though I do not currently play. Not enough time. I plan to start back up in the summer, at least that's the hope.

Thanks for the input, Luke. :) It has me intrigued enough that I may give it a whirl. I'm glad to hear that it is highly solo-able. The fact that you end up almost being forced to party is  one thing I've never liked about some MMORPGs. I want to have the option to go it alone if I want. (Well, the option is always there in any game, it just may not be feasible, is all.)

I may pick it up after I finish FFX and FFX2. As it stands, I just beat Seymour Flux in FFX and am about to take on the trials at Mt. Gagazet. I'm pretty sure I still have a long way to go before I finish that.
