Fifth Ring - by Arislyn on 15:08 24 Mar 2003
I am about halfway through reading Fifth Ring by Mitchell Graham and figured I'd recommend it you everyone here.
It's sorta-kinda a post-apocolyptic (gosh I have no idea if I spelled that correctly) story. Basically, it's set in a world that has arisen 3000 years after a powerful, scientific society destroyed itself. Now, this world is pretty much a medieval society, however, they have a greater grasp of science than did our own medieval denizens. Most of the artifacts and whatnot from the previous civilization have been lost and are being dug up in archaeological expeditions, just as we discover things today. Of course, some of these things are being studied and some are being sold on the black market.
The characters are wonderful! I've absolutely fallen in love with the main characters and the villian, Duren, is so much fun to hate. Graham does a great job of writing both emotionally and from an action standpoint.
If you'd like to read some exerpts from the book, Graham has them posted at his website http://www.mitchellgraham.net/ . I believe the first 8-9 pages are there for you to peruse.
