We all know fantasy made a hug splash over the years know with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings... But what about the other films we seem to always forget or never speak of. So out of that notion what is your favorite fantasy film that we either forgotten or just never thought of in awhile?

Mine probably would be Labyrinth. I always mention it but it can easily be forgotten. Its my favorite fantasy film of all time.

Welcome to the forums, VP. :)

Hmmm...I think one of my favs has to be The Dark Crystal. I've mentioned Dragon Slayer in other threads before, but as you said, there are always ones that you forget. And this is one of them, even though I have it on tape.

I remember watching the "Neverending Story" at a young age, and loved it.

"Willow" was very good.

"Excalibur" was also excellent.

Btw, these are in addition to the wonderful movies listed above. :) I'm sure I'll think of more later.

I mostly seem to see the bad movies it seems.

Beastmaster, Highlanders with a number higher than 1, etc...

It seems to be very hit and miss, sort of like modern westerns.  They are either great or awful.

I think it is mostly the way Hollywood approaches the fantasy traditions.  To them it is not THE genre or a way of life even, they are just movies with funny props/ costumes and reasons for special effect.

there was a movie i rememer seeing wayback .. Jacl Palence was in it as the bad guy .. I remember liking it but now i can only remember some of the silly SFX .. Hawk, the Slayer .. i think was the title. definately B movie material ... i also enjoyed the He-Man live action movie with Dolph Lungren . it was fun.

labyrinth .. dark crystal, there were some decent sinbad movies .. i recall seeing Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger when i was a lad .. in the movie theater.

Legend ... some more will come to me.

Ladyhawk with Rutger Hauer and Matthew Broderick. That movie rocked!

As din mentioned, the Sinbad movies were pretty decent too. Wasn't there about 3-4 of them?

I also remember, from so long ago, a Musketeer movie. (pretty vague, neh?). I think it was in black and white. Anyways, what I remember most was the swordplay at the end. ####, that was a good fight! If I remember, I'll ask a friend which actors were in it. I simply can't recall at the moment.

I love The Dark Crystall. That was a beutiful film. I always loved Jim Henson films.

Willow was great... And Highlanders were always my favorite.

Dragon Heart is a good one... It was really well down... And Dragon Slayer... The Last Unicorn which was an animation that was really good.

Legend is beutiful film as well. Tom Cruise, Mia Sara, and Tim Curry. I am going to get the special edition one day. I have it on VHS.

There is this one called The Polar Bear King which was a foreign film I believe. I have it on VHS and it was well down. It was Netherland fairy tale. It was beutiful.

Neverending Story... I love the book and film. I have all three. I wanted to see the series but the hallmark station is connected to a relgius station over here and it cuts it off.

The 10th Kingdom... If anyone seen it. It was a mini series. It was well down.

So many out there that are so easy to forget.

The sinbad movies were great, the ones where Harry Harryhausen did the effects.  I only remember two of them though. One starred John Wayne's son.  there may have been more.

Ladyhawke was very good.  I really liked Rutger Hauer in that.  Also good was a movie called Hearts and armor, which starrred, of all people, Tanya Roberts.  But it was good.  I liked Excalibur as well.  HIghlander wasn't bad but I preferred the TV series,

Excalibur was very good.  I've mentioned Dragonslayer before.  Good point about Labyrinth that was a surprisingly good movie that got panned by some critics.  All of those that you have all mentioned are really good.  I enjoyed Willow.

A lot of those old stop action movies: Jason and the Argonaughts, were good.

Of course if you replace the technology with magic Star Wars is really more of a fantasy tale than science fiction.

Excalibur was a really good film. I loved it. I seen a few times on tv.

Lady Hawke was great as well.

Some wonderful visuals in Excalibur.

What about Bad Fantasy movies?  I think there have been plenty of those as well.  I would put Red Sonja near the top of such a list.  Hawk the Slayer was horrible, I thought.  Krull was not bad.  I think there was one made by the Barbarian brothers that was pretty awful.  I generaly thought the second highlander movie sucked big time.  The third was better.

Too often the folks in Hollywood don't know how to take a fantasy movie seriously and they screw it up by too much tongue in cheek stuff.
