Super easy FTP client

FTP Works is a free FTP client for windows that is supposed to be super easy to use.

When I was first starting out I relied on the web editors I was using to upload pages and files.  FTP sounded like a scary thing, because nobody ever explained how to do it, and I avoided it until I got a hosting account that forced me to use FTP.  The truth is that FTP is pretty simple and a much better faster way to upload files.

Anyway, the freebie FTP clients are disappearing, but with this one the cost won't stop you.

I downloaded this. It works very well; it's simple and functional. I prefer FTP Explorer, a free download that operates like windows.

However, when I tried recently to add some .cgi to a site using FTP, I actually needed to use both! Cute FTP is still much better- but expensive (to me  :p)

I've been using the old, tried and true WS FTP. It's pretty straightforward and free. :)

One I tried and really liked was CoffeeCup FTP. Very nice because it lets you edit HTML within the same FTP window. Unfortuantely, it's not free. I only tried it for the 30 day evaluation and opted for something less fancy but just as functional.

i've been using filezilla for a long while now ..

http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla

it is free and is still being developed , i've had no problems with it on win98, winME, or XP

i liked it more than the venerable WS_ftp i used to use ( a very old version ) and ftpexplorer . it handles the file permissions for cgi and text/binary uploads . it has a nice window to window drag and drop ..

I always wondered where you got Filezilla din.  Now I know.

I like to find the FTP clients that are free and easy to use.  When I first started FTP sounded so mysterious.  Nobody ever explained it.  And back then information was hard to find on things.  People would say "you can just FTP it", but never explain /how/ to do that.  So taking the intimidation factor out of it helps.

Just like WYSIWYG or drag and drop editors, they might have limitations but if they get people creating their own websites that is fine with me.  They can refine their skills as they go.
