Chronicles of Narnia movie - by Arislyn on 10:00 11 Nov 2004
This may be old news, but it's the first I've heard about it. Looks like they're coming out with a new movie based on The Chronicles of Narnia.
You know, I don't believe I've ever read Chronicles of Narnia in their entirety. I remember watching the animated movie that came on TV a long time ago and I don't even recall much of that.

I remember the cartoon quite well. I thought it was a good version, but it didn't do all the books. However the UK's childrens series was awfull. Really pretentious child actors, the one playing Lucy had a very annoying lisp - not her fault but very annoying along with all the "smashings" and "supers". It was quite popular though and did more of the books than just Lion, W & W.

Hi Noonchild,
I was just going to ask about a live action series (mini-series?) done in the UK. I think I saw parts of a couple of episodes here on public television. Is that what you are referring too?

Yep probably. There was a really fake looking lion anamatronic as Aslan, you could almost hear the whirring cogs and belts....
I guess this was made around 1992 ish.

Never saw the UK live-action version, I did see the cartoon version of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Eh......not horrible, but nothing to write home about.

I liked the UK mini series - it covered The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Prince Caspian, Voyage of the Dawn Treader and The Silver Shair. I know exactly where the criticisms are coming from - watching it again now (itys just out on special edition DVD) I think its fairly awful, but mainly becuase it made absolutely no attempt to be a family series. It was just for kids, the language was changed to make it just for kids, the scenery was designed to impress kids, etc etc. In that capacity it was good.
I'm a little worried about the new films that are going to be made. I'm a massive Narnia fan, and I heard some talk early on (Pre scripts) that the characters in the new film would all be american, which I think would take away a lot of the charm, given that its really important to the story and the characters especially in the lion the witch and..... that the kids are in the country to escape the blitz. Without this thread of boredom and fear, a lot of the significance of just how magical the experience was would be lost. We'll see though......
