In for a penny...

I ordered the Buffy tVS RPG game today.  Powells.com seems to be the only one of the booksellers carrying it.  I got to thinking that the Buffyverse is now a rich enough mythos in it's own right to play in and being a lover of the show, I figured I better grab a copy now.  With the program done, stuff could go out of print quickly.  Better to grab a copy now.

I would like to give the game a big two thumbs up.

Eden's Unisystem fits the world perfectly.

The game is written in the style of the show.

The game includes 20 some odd pages on how to maintain that Buffy Feel in a game

The production value on the book is good.

I have been running the game in a play by post at www.rpol.net (Modern- Slayer's Dream).  Our slayer just got called in episode 4.  The game plays like a dream and the players love it.   We even get fan email from our lurkers.

I remembered your earlier recommendation which figured into my deciding to buy.

I don't think it will go out of print, but contracts can change and I don't know how well placed this game has been in retail stores. Online, last I looked, neither Amazon or Barnes and Nobel were carrying it.  Powells has it but they are marketing it without a cover shot. If it has a decent cover art they could really increase their sales if they showed it.  Makes me wonder if there is some byzantine contract clause stopping that?

Wizards Attic probably has it but I hear rumors they might be in financial difficulties.

All that is a long winded way of wondering if it is selling and if so how the heck are they selling it?  Seems like it is hard to reach critical mass in sales if mass retailers won't carry it. (Again, maybe the bricks and mortar stores are.)

The Book is being carried in the normal game distribution channels.  Eden Games have a fairly strong distribution. It should be available at your FLGS (Friendly Local Game Store).  The Buffy sites often have links to eTailers that sell the game.

I have found the game in Barnes and Nobles stores, in both their game shelves and Buffy book section.  In addition, Borders is carrying it.  But not on their online.  Could never figure out why they carry somethings in the stores and not carry them online.

Wizards's attic seems to be in a bit of trouble, but we will see if they pull it out.  It is a new type of business model they are following. They may need to refine it.  It was not the HUGE success they were obviously counting on, but it is something of a success.

Borders transferred their online order fulfillment to Amazon.  It is good to hear it is selling through normal channels.  We really don't have a RPG store in the area other than the bookstores.

For those interested in role playing in Buffyrpgdom but might be on a tight budget I found 3 free Buffy rpg rules systems online:

First, we have d6 Buffy which adapts West End Game's d6 system to playing Buffy.  din tells me that d6 is a decent, easy and fast game system.  Looks like there is a PDF file for downloading.

Second, we have Fudge: Buffy which adapts Buffy to the Fudge system.  Looks like the rules are web based.  The site says these rules work best for a quick pick-up scenario.  This might not be right for a long campaign.

Third, is Slayer-Roleplaying which is available for download and online.  This looks like a totally home grown system for the Buffy world.  I have not read it but it looks interesting.
