There has been a huge update to the "Legends" thread for those who are interested. The post had to be split in two due to having over 100,000 characters!!
Many thanks to Ari and EL for their contributions and fine play.
Thanks everyone!
Haru
Edit:At the moment it looks like pg. 10 is unaccessible. Brad, din... any suggestions?

*test pattern* Please stand by.
Umm. The thingy broke.
After much ineffectual clicking around in the admin panel... I have sent for Darth din.

Cool.
I will close the thread and restart a new one. Slightly over 10 pages is good for a "chapter" anyways.
With almost all the players in the picture, Legends will be heating up soon. Mwahahahahaha!!

i'm looking at a few things now, do you know what was on that page exactly ? seems that page 11 is coming up and just page 10 is awry.
there may be an obscure setting somewhere. i'll try to hunt down that 'error log' too. if time presses too hard i might not be able to do any serious fiddling until saturday morning. there are a couple back-up / maintainance steps i can take that might resolve something

Thank you for looking into this, din! I really, really, really appreciate it.
And just to show you how much I appreciate it, I'll send over a few of my undead minions to help out around the house....the less fleshy ones, even. The zombies keep dropping parts everywhere.

Ari

If the undead can do eletrical contracting, i wouldn't have to turn the power off to let them work. it could save lots of time

I really appreciate it as well. I can send Fluffy over. She's not as good as Ari's zombies, but she can solder with the best of them.
Btw, EvilLuke said he got the page to load ok. *shrugs* I still get an error message.
As far as what exactly was on the page... I know it had one or two very long posts on it. I also didn't run into trouble until I tried to post a long update with over 100,000 characters.
I think I fried it.
Speaking of which, this particular thread allows 102,400 characters. That would have been just enough. *pouts*

The Ikonboard is now like a snake with this huge bulge in the center where it ate a big rat.

Just something I wanna mention. I went ahead and started a new thread.
Also, the board seems to be defaulting to black text, which is very hard, if not impossible to read. You can see from your post above mine, Brad. Not a big thing, all considered, since ib code can easily change the color. Just thought to mention it.

I think I fixed the default text color thing. It should be white now. Let me know if there is a problem.

In case anyone notices that I edited the last two posts to Legend Grows, I didn't erase/change anything that was written. All I did was go in and get rid of the funky formatting that sometimes happens when you are copying from an email to the board.

on the default color. my post came out all black also, it turns out that the default color in my user profile was changed ot set to black, or i had it on black and the default vs. personal prefence is different on different boards. i just thought i made a mistake in my own profile so i didn't look into more.
also, on the infamous page 10. i haven't had a chance to look at it. we had a regional power outage ( of all things, darn undead electricains ) for almost 8 hours this morning which threw my day into a wreck, and made it very cold for many hours in my house.

i poked around at this problem for a while. nothing i've done seems to have resolved page 10. I did find that the 'print this topic' will show the entire thread, including the posts that are on page 10, so they are there in the database, the board is just unable to show them.
I concur with the theory that those posts as a group are too big for the board to show on one page. I can test this, i believe, by reducing the number of posts per page temporarily and see if that resolves page 10. I'm loathe to try until Brad gives me the go ahead, i'm not sure if it will make things wonky or how easy it will be to change back. I have another iB under my control, er two others now, and i can try it on them, there are less people and posts on them to screw up if i'm incorrect.
The board should be able to handle one or two 75K (which is how iB limits post size in the admin) posts per page , but maybe not nine or ten of them
i did try bumping up the post size limit for individual posts, but that didn't seem to work; suggesting again it is the number of high volume posts on that particular page that is the culprit. I also went through most of the database utilities, rebuilding, recounting, and backing up, etc.
sorry i can't a more difinative answer for you all, but it did give me the chance to catch up with some nice reading

Thanks for looking at that din. Let's NOT risk making even more pages unreadable by trying to set the limits down.
Ari, Haru, sorry guys, I guess the free Ikonboard is not bullet-proof.

Ok cool! At least the data wasn't lost. I'll make sure to break down the posts into smaller bits for better digestion next time.
Will there be any way to get the posts to show up on the board? Is it possible for them to be split into smaller posts and resubmitted? Just wondering, as that is a large chunk of story that is rather inaccesible.
Thanks for looking into things, din. It is very appreciated.

*takes a moment to look proud for all the wrong reasons* Ha! Never say anything is idiot-proof until this has taken a crack at it!
Thanks for looking at it! As Haru said, we'll just start putting up smaller chunks and everything should be cool.
Oh, and din, sorry about that outage. I tried to send you the less fleshy zombies so they wouldn't drop bits into the generators and whatnot, but sometimes these things happen. Tell ya what, I've got a couple of skeletal electricans baking out back. As soon as the beetles have eaten all the flesh off of them, I'll send them your way.....
