I saw Alien versus Predator the other night with some friends.  I enjoyed it for what it was, a violent romp through the combined series of Aliens and Predators.  It had several interesting concepts on how the two species were tied together, and there were a few decent fight scenes.

There was a bit of "slow mo" in the movie, a kind of matrix like quality, and the predators were "bigger" and more bulky than they'd been in the previous two fillms.  There were also a few flaws in the plot, to me, but I enjoyed it.  I certainly don't rate it as high as Alien or Aliens, but it was probably up there with three and four.

I hear this is doing really good at the boxoffice.  I think I saw the original Predator, was that the one with the soldiers in the jungle or something?

I dont know where you heard that from, it was not a very good film at all in my opinion. It had so much potentail and it just didn't deliver.  For one the predators weapons, c'mon such an advanced alien race that relies on wrist blades and throwing stars as weapons and on one plasma cannon? That just doesnt wash.

Yup, Brad, that's the one! It was the film starring Ah-nold where a bunch of soldiers go into the jungle on a recon mission, I think (it's been a long time since I've seen Predator) and end up facing off with these intergalatic hunters.

Legion, I agree with you up to a point. The way I envision the Predators is basically like a race of "sport hunters". When they go out to do their recreational hunting, they use sub-par weapons in order to show off their own prowess and make it more sportsmanlike when fighting lesser races. You know, sort of the whole "Hey, lookee! I killed a bear with a spatula! Go, me and my spatula-wielding badness!"

However, if those blades and the one plasma cannon are all the Predators have to fight with - at all - then, yeah, that completely doesn't wash. When you run up against a race that is just as nasty as you are, you certainly don't want to be going after them with tiny, pointy things strapped to your wrists.

I have heard many fair reviews on this movie, some are really bad, others are really good.

I am a huge fan of both the Alien and Predator saga, and AvP was a dream come true.

I have not seen it yet, as I live in the UK, but I feel many people are bashing this movie when they don't even know the brand...what I mean is, many may not be fans, or might have never seen the other movies before, and you may feel that some scenes look silly and all, when to a fan, a deditcated fan, the scenes willl not as they completely understand the two sagas.

Some of you are forgetting the story as well, this movie has a really intresting set up and theres more to the story than you may think. The humans are actually there for a purpose, to host the Aliens so the Predators can actually fight them and take their pride...eveything in this movie has a reason, and the story is really intresting, I cant wait to see it in Oct the 22nd.
